Research:
- Modelling gene flow and estimating risks to remnant eucalypt stands due to introgression from plantations
- Development and application of risk assessment methodologies to transgenic crops
- Developing methodologies for identifying patterns of adaptive variation in tree species in order to:
understand the evolutionary processes that have caused them,
predict and preserve genetic within spe cies as a component of overall biodiversity and
efficiently sample genetic resources for tree breeding programs.
Other professional interests:
- Conservation genetics of forest species
- Tree breeding
- Theory of plant-parasite interaction, coevolution of pathosystems and application to applied breeding for pest and disease resistance
- Analysis of adaptation and genotype by environment interaction in plants
- Forest growth modelling
Potential Post-Graduate and Honours projects:
Several projects are available in forest conservation genetics or tree breeding and funding may be available through the CRC Forestry.
- Estimating gene flow in major "ash" eucalypts ( Eucalyptus obliqua, E. regnans and E. delegatensis ).
- Introgression of genes from plantations into native stands.
- Determining effects of current regeneration practices on genetic diversity in native forests.
