Creswick Waste Wise Program

In 2007 the Creswick Campus joined the WasteWise program, run by Sustainability Victoria. We formulated an Action Plan to out line how we would reduce waste and also reduce energy consumption and water, and obtained our Bronze level certificate.
We are now reviewing our progress and can celebrate our achievements.
Some of the highlights are:
- An 8% reduction in electricity use
- A 14% reduction in gas use
- A 70% reduction in water use – our baseline was from the bygone age before water restrictions
- A 33% reduction in the number of kilometres driven – most staff now travel by train when they go to Parkville
- Polystyrene and cardboard recycling
- A 46% reduction in the amount of paper purchased
The next part of the process involves formulating a new Action Plan to build on this and tackle other aspects of our consumption and carbon emissions. Our new plan will be part of the Resource Smart program, which has a greater emphasis on water, transport, and energy as well as waste.
